英格兰地形平坦，不可居住的地区甚少，而日本不可居住地区面积占比甚大，以可住区而言，人口密度是不如日本高的。

联合王国24万多平方公里，可住地面积20.63万平方公里，非可住地主要分布在苏格兰北部。其中英格兰面积13万多平方公里，5600万人，绝大部分可住。
日本面积约38万平方公里，12600万人，可住地面积10.35万平方公里。70%以上国土是限制开发居住的森林湿地等非可住面积。
另外暂存一组数据，2015年人口普查数据，日本总人口1.27亿，其中DID人口规模为8687万，占总人口比重68.3%。而截至2015年，日本DID面积1.28万平方公里，占日本总国土面积的3.4%。换句话说，日本DID以占全国3.4%的国土面积承载着68.3%的人口。

当然有其他方面，比如部分比部分，本州岛的人口密度就比英格兰高。

英格兰有郡的，非都市郡可类比日本的县，都市郡反而没得类比。

有下级政府的不能算是市镇，单一管理区算是市镇。
