Dehradun: In a bid to woo the people of Uttarakhand in the face of Assembly elections, the BJP government has started giving special emphasis to the long pending demands and projects.
After the formation of four new districts, the state government is going to set up new local bodies including Municipal Corporation and 20 new Nagar Panchayats in the state.
Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik said, “The formalities involved in the formation of new local bodies would be completed soon. The Nagar Panchayats will be formed in two phases.”
The government is now going through the legal paraphernalia for the formation of new districts -- Ranikhet, Didihaat, Kotdwar and Yamunotri. Besides, the state government also approved the decision of setting up the municipal corporation in Haridwar and Haldwani.
According to sources, the new Municipal Corporation would be set up in Garhwal and in Kumaon division.
Also, the Nagar Palika Roorkee and Nagar Palika Kashipur have been converted into Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation).
Presently, there are 63 civic bodies in the state. Besides three Municipal Corporation in Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani, there are 30 Municipalities and 30 Nagar Panchayat.
After the implementation of the new announcement, the state will have a total of 83 local bodies which would include five Municipal Corporation, 28 Municipalities and 50 Nagar Panchayat.
