PRESS HANDOUT NAHARLAGUN:- In an effort to motivate the local people of Anjaw District, to take up herbal medicinal plant cultivation commercially and also at kitchen garden level for medicinal use, week long training and awareness camps on herbal medicines has been organized in the various circles of Anjaw district.
The awareness camps has been organized by the district Administration of Anjaw in collaboration with Vivekananda Trust, RRL Jorhat and State medicinal plant board with the active participation & help from district Agriculture, Horticulture Education and health agencies.
Awareness about the medicinal values of the herbal plants of Arunachal Pradesh , considered a storehouse of major medicinal plants, would encourage the people to take up herbal medicinal plants cultivation, thus creating employment opportunity for the people, said Deputy Commissioner Anjaw, Shri Prashant Lokhande. He further hoped that with medicinal plant cultivation being a better alternative, illegal poppy cultivation, a health hazard plant, cultivated in the hilly terrain areas of the district would be eradicated from the district.
The Deputy Commissioner was speaking as the Chief Guest, at the inaugural function of a training camp at Hayuliang on July 5, last . Co-ordinator Vivekananda Kendra, Shri Satyanarayan, also expressed hope that the awareness camps, would help promote the concept of herbal kitchen Gardens among the people and also help in solving unemployment. The Circle Officer Hayuliang Sub-Divisional Agriculture officer Hayuliang organized practical plantation training in the SDAO's Garden.
A large number of villagers , Gaon burahs , Panchayat Members, students, Govt. Officials attended the camp with great enthusiasm. Similar camps will be conducted at Hawai, Walong and Amliang , This is the first even attempt in this direction in the hilly district of Anjaw.
